The Association of Neurology Specialists in Iran began its journey in 1991, originally known as the Iranian Neurosciences Association, under the leadership of Professor Jalal Barimani. From 1991 to 1999, the association successfully organized annual neurology symposiums and board elections.

In 2003, the leadership decided to rebrand the association as the Iranian Neurological Association. Following this change, they conducted five rounds of public elections in the years 2003, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2017, and 2022.
